Sometimes these work ok and sometimes they don't. I find that they will shoot ball ammo best. This is not something that will hold up to a lot of use.

i have had two new ones come to me in 2 weeks needing work. the feed ramp on the barrel hangs over the frame so every shot was getting hung up. not good i say.

I got a Rock Island 1911 for $375. Gun works great. Sights are small and there is some hammer bite but for a cheapy 1911 this gun can't be beat. I've been trying to get it jam but it won't. Gun feeds Corbons better than my Kimber!

[:)] A question here; not a critique. Why would you select a smallish gun for home defense? Not the caliber, the size of the weapon? Personally, I'd be looking for a good 12 ga. shotgun, or something like an M1 Carbine. If it's got to be a handgun, then I'd go fullsized 1911. The Mini-Max might be o.k. for concealment, but when your home and family's life is in jeopardy, there is no need to hide it; and indeed, visibility might prove an asset.[:D]
