Colt 1911 Patent Dates

I have read that the Aug 19 1913 patent date should not be seen on a usgi 1911 until serial number 83xxx. Is it possible for that date to be on a slide from a serial number 61xxx gun?

  It was quite common for the pistols used by the military to be cleaned by the unit armourers and others, by field striping many at a time. As the slide to frame fit was made to be interchangeable, they made no effort to insure the original frames and slides were assembled.

  The 1913 dated slide could not possibly be original to a gun with a 61xxx frame.
