Stevens Model 52 Schutzen Jr.
Did Stevens make a M52 with other that a hooked Swiss type butt plate? This is a M52 on a 44 action in 38-55. Also, what year would #63xx have been made?

Anything above a Mod 45 was a special order item. Schuetzen shooters, like every other target shooters were highly individualistic when it came to their guns, so anything is possible. I assume yours is marked with the model # on the front of the receiver. 0 -
The model # is on the front of the receiver, visible after forearm wood removed. The butt stock is the Swiss Schutzen type with heavy crescent type steel butt plate.

If it is a 44, rather than a 44 1/2 action, then it was made between 1896 and 1902. I'm sorry that I can't be more precise, but there is no accurate serial number breakdown for Stevens. What style lever does it have? 0 -

One other question...does it have an extra projection on hammer that gives the breechblock more support? 0 -
It has a lever similar to a Winchester pistol grip M65.(loop lever).
No projection on the hammer. Barrel is 30 inches, half round, half octagon. Weighs 11+pounds. Receiver appears to be etched rather than engraved. Rear sight is a Lyman #1, front is a Lyman globe.0 -
It sounds like a typical Model 52. They and the 49s were my favorites. 0
