I had an Astro van with the old cast iron 4.3 and when I got rid of it, there were 280,000 miles on it.
And as far as I know, it's still running. Sold it to a cousin.
If you ask over on the General Forum, they'll have all kinds of fun with this!0 -

We have a 1983 S10 with 310,000 plus on a 2.2l 4cyl.
But, Then again, I just dumped a 2002 S-10 2.2l 4cyl, with 58,000, that had been in 3 wrecks, replaced 2 5spd transmissions, 1 rear axle assy, and still has major engine electrical problems.
I can safely say that we have 60+ S-10 with 100,000 -150,000 on the clock with another 40 or so under 70,000 miles.

I bought a near new 1991 extended cab S-10 in 1992. It had the 2.8L V-6 and 5-speed stick. Power and air, but not windows, cruise and all that. It was a pretty nice truck. With the smaller V-6, I am not sure it was any better off than with the 4-banger. It got over 27 mpg on the highway, but it wouldn't get out of its own way.
I drove it until 2000 when I took delivery of my Silverado. When I sold the S-10, it had over 167,000 miles on it. The paint was oxidizing. The seats were worn. But it would still go.
Well, here it is February of 2005. Just the other day, I saw my old truck coming down the road. Still going.
IMHO, the S-10 will run as long as you want it to. You just can't do any better than buy a Chevy truck.

Had a 1991 S-10 with the 2.8 v6 and 5 sp. stick extended cab, air, cruse. 176000 mi and the only problem was the plastic ended radiator. Installed an aluminum rad. Traded it for a 1994 S-10 extended cab, 4.3 vortec auto trans, LS package. 145000mi only problem was an intermittent fuse contact, or lack of contact that prevented it from shifting. Now I have a 2000 S-10 4x4 extended cab LS 65000 mi and this one has a habit every once in a while of thinking that someone is trying to steal it and the anti theft lockout will prevent it from starting for exactly 10 min,s other than that I love it. S-10's are a good ride[:)]

I don't mean to be a killjoy-I like my pickup too-but isn't this a gun forum? There's got to be a Chevy forum somewhere to discuss the virtues of the S-10. 0 -
We all carry our guns in our S-10's so it's on the right forum[:D]
