point me on buying FAL

I would like to buy an FAL for target shooting to go along with my AR-15 And 700rem. What is the best bang for my buck? I dont care about how pretty it is or what its worth. I just want a shooter I would also like to scope it. Please give me you input thanks.

    Best bang for the buck is to build one your self. Next best is a DSA STG-58 Variant, about $900... If you are into gambling, one of the new century's can be had for $600, supposedly they are better than the older ones.

    Ditto on putting one together. If this is unfamilar territory to you buy the Gun Plumber's tape, it will guide you right thru the process. The tricky parts are removing the old reciever stub and fitting the barrel to the new reciever, but honestly it's not to hard to do, and you can do with a mototool and a file.
    If you're going commercial and can afford it, it's DSA first by a country mile. I've had real good luck with their parts as well and they're good people to deal with. If you buy a Century insist on Shooting it first to check for function. Many of the early centuries mixed inch and metric pattern pieces with the result that they didn't work right and were difficult to correct. I've also heard that this has been corrected, but I would test to be safe.

    I have quite a few Fal variants. Some were built on Imbel recievers,Some on Coonan. The Imbel's seem to shoot any ammo while the Coonan's are picky about very clean ammo. Some are pre-ban imports I bought back in the 80's and some are your later post ban Century with Imbel receiver sporter models. I have 3 sporters that shoot flawless and are as accurate as any I have.One has 3500-4k rounds through it and still shoots very good and it has never jammed. They will cycle any round so far I've tried(even the pos Indian and tarnished Portugal) and with regular stocks and pin-on flash suppressors, they look like pre-ban guns. I see them all over gun shows for 500 or less. Thats what I would recommend. If you don't know what you are doing, dont build one yourself. Headspacing is crucial on these.

    I had a friend build me an imbel kit/ imbel receiver that cost me about $600.00 and it shoots great. Even the supposed "no good" India surplus FMJ ammo shoots through it fine. My brother in Law bought a real nice STG 58 through Enterprise arms. It looks beautiful and it has the aluminum heat shield and the integral bipod. I believe it was about $700.00. When it came it looked brand new, although it was built from an Austrian Kit and an Enterprise arms receiver. I think that Enterprise arms has the best value for a completed kit.

    I bought my Imbel carbine FAL from them for $600. Great gun at a unheard of price. Their fulsize gun is $585 I think.
