heavy mauser barrel??
anyone know of a brand who makes a threaded mauser barrel?. im looking for a nice heavy barrel in 270 or 308. accuracy is a big thing for me. price range:$100-$250 MAX.

First off what do you mean by "heavy" ? 1" dia no taper? How long? What muzzel end dia. Brownells offers some M98 threaed Douglas XX premium and Shillen barrels in your price range that are real good and accurate in both those calibers. I'd also recomend that you stay away from the Adams and Bennett barrels that midway sells. They seem to be hit or miss as to what you get. Try www.brownells.com 0 -

i disagree with the comment concerning the adams&bennett barrels. i have built six rifles in 5 different calibers and all will shoot sub moa. 1-1/2" @ 300yds for the .224TTH even with the big name barrels i
t's how they are installed, care in chambering, squareness,etc.
as far as hit and miss.... that depends on who is squeezing the trigger doesn't it0 -
Ummm if you have a real gunsmith, he can cut the threads at the same time that he does the chambering.
As you stated that accuracy is important to you, having the action checked (and corrected if needed) for true is somthing that also needs to be done (this may involve recutting the threads oversize) and he will make the barrel threads a perfect match for your receiver. The chamber is 50% or more of the barrels accuracy potential. This is not a place to skimp when small groups are the main goal.
BTW, Shilen CM barrels run around $175-200 (varies due to steel prices) for a blank tube.
260, My objection to A&B or Shaw barrels is 2-fold, 1) there customer service stinks, and 2) I don't like working in a copper mine. The one's I've been around fouled like crazy (heavy visable copper after 1 shot), at least with a Shilen, Doug will relap/replace it under warrenty if it's not satisfactory to the customer.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
I've done okay with my A&B but have shot better with another barrel. I recently purchased a Barrel blank from a Guy in Meteetse, Wyoming. I forget which barrel maker he worked for but my barrel in 7mm has been consistently shooting under 1/2" groups. he sells blanks only as far as I know right now, so it will cost you an extra 100 bucks to have it threaded and chambered. He sells on Ebay....if he is still selling.
Another option for a good and inexpensive threaded barrel are the Parker Hales you find on online auctions. IF YOU CAN VERIFY THEY HAVEN'T BEEN SHOT OUT OF ACCURACY POTENTIAL! They should run about 75-100 bucks. Make sure you ask questions before bidding and keep the replies. -good luck

Try ER Shaw or look for an PH barrel(they are chamber in 7.62mm- aka 308 win.), And check out Midway for an F54 barrels made by A&B. The price range that you are looking for is bottom of the barrel. I have an Heart barrel in 308 on my Yugo action. I did most of the work my-self expect the stock.
