Mauser K98 in the white?

I saw a 1944 K98 yesterday at a show that was in the white. No blue at all,anywhere I could see,without removing the wood. It could not have worn off by normal handling.Question is; was there ever such an animal as an "in the white" K98? I think perhaps someone removed it for some reason and then just screwed her back together. The entire surface finish of all the metal is almost polished,not rough or scratched at all.

  Well, I for one have never seen such an animal. And I looked at, handled, collected, and worked on a lot of them. But--earlier Mausers like the W.W.I 1898 and some made for export had the receiver in the white, and the bolt almost always was polished. Sounds like someone prepared the gun for rebluing and then decided to sell it instead. The only other possiblity that comes to mind is a nickel-plated honor guard rifle.

  By '44 some parts were phosphated, so I agree with Geb, no regular production weapon was left in the white in '44.
