Remington 1100 12 Ga

I bought an older 1100 Remington Deer gun today at a pawn shop for $150. It is dinged-up some and has some rust on the barrel, but is solid and I would rate it as good condition overall. The bore is smooth with no choke tubes and it has rifled sights. My question is what kind of accuracy can I expect at 50 yards and is that about the maximum practical range for standard 2 3/4 in shotgun slug loads in this type shotgun? I don't deer hunt with slugs as we can use rifles in my state; I thought it might make a good truck self-defense gun with slugs or OO buckshot. I was thinking about adding a magazine extension.

    your best bet is going to the range and finding out for yourself. for example...when i deer hun, i use a super black eagle...smooth bore, and the farthest i will shoot might be 60 yards. im comfortable at that range and very confident in the accuracy. every gun will shoot a little different as will every slug will fly a little different.

    you had mentioned this might be used as 'truck defense' and you had said something about a magazine extension....id hate to see what you are defending against! [:D]

    I shoot my 1100 with breneke/Rottwiler 1 1/8 oz and can hit the heat area at 100 yds. Make sure you roll the window down first![:D]
