45ACP 45GAP
45ACP VS 45GAP WHATS THE DIFFERENCE? CAN THEY BE USED IN SAME GUN?

The .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) has a shorter case than .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol).....therefore .45 ACP would be too long for a pistol made for .45 GAP, and since both cartridges are designed to headspace on the case mouth, .45 GAP would be too short for a pistol designed for .45 ACP. 0 -
The Glock 45 GAP was brought about by Glock to solve a problem. A double stack 45 ACP magazine requires a large grip frame to enclose it, making the grip too large for most people with average size or smaller hands.
The first attempt at fixing the problem was the model 36 slimmed down ,single stack model, which fits your hand . you only get 7 rounds with it.
Glock figured that if you shortened the ACP case and use basically the same loading pressure you would for all practical purposes still have a 45 ACP round in a shorter case, which is true. By shortening the case they can then shorten the front to back length of the grip and and have a high cap double stack magazine ,which is what shooters want, and have a much smaller feeling grip that will suit most hands.
This is the "why" of the GAP .It is no better or worse than the ACP it just allows a suitable grip. Ive not heard of any other mfg. chambering it , but there may be.
If you like Glock pistols and want a 45 that fits yor hand better than the model 21 its the one to get .Its not a magic bullet or anything superior or inferior to the ACP just a solution to a size problem.0 -
Remember if you get the GAP, ammo is not going to be cheap and reloading for it may not be cheap either since components are limited at this time. 0 -
Springfield makes the XD9504 in the 45 GAP. 0 -

Other than the brass ,what components are limited? [:)]

I think you can make the GAP brass by simply trimming a 45 ACP to the proper length. I believe you could use the ACP dies to reload it just as you use 38/357 and 44 special/ 44 mag to load either. ACP components are plentiful so ammo for reloaders is not a problem. 0 -
There is still a fundamental question here, though:
Why buy a GAP when you can get the good-ol' .45 ACP? That would be like settling for a .40 short&weak when you could have a 10mm!
Despite certain claims, the GAP can never achieve the same level of power as the ACP. Cor-Bon's 185 gr. ACP loads produce 637 FPE. That is actual from chronographed rounds using a Springfield loaded 1911.
The GAP won't come within 100 FPE of that number.
It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.0 -
Gap has a different taper than the acp ,they used a cut down .45 acp to design the cartridge ,but they had to give the rim a different taper
Springfield is now making a 1911 in the gap

Hunter 375 the GAP is not a replacement or something you seek out instead of the ACP . Read my first post again. It exists to solve the grip size problem for a person who wants a 45 cal. Glock pistol. 0
