Ruger 10/22

Recently sold a new 10/22 wood stock for over 900.00. It did have a box that had 50th anniversary emblem on it. Why was this gun so hot? Was it the box or what. It looked like every other 10 22 I see.

    I've never been a real fan of the 10/22, but when I'm at the range with friends & they have their semi autos with 20 & 30 rd mags, nice scope and I'm plinking away with a Win 52, peep sights and 5 rd mags, well, the 52's more accurate but maybe not as much fun.

    Saw & bought a Ruger 10/22 Target today for good price (heavy bbl & laminated stock) and am looking for some help on those little accessories Ruger fans seem to load up on. I don't want to go wild, just make the thing a little more convenient to shoot & accurate. Specifically:

    1) I want to replace the trigger - any suggestions?
    2) Is there a device that will hold open the bolt after the last
    round?
    3) Auto bolt release - is there a bolt release that allows the bolt
    to go forward by pulling the bolt to the rear instead of having to
    play with the release on the underside of the rifle?
    4) Mag release - is there one that protrudes out so I don't have to
    press the stock one in?

    Finally,any feelings on whether the Ruger benefits from glass bedding either the action or barrel or both? How about free floating the barrel?

    I don't want to go wild on this project - just put together a nice shooter.

    Dealer cost is $154.00 at JSC the cheapest distrib around so $175.00 and up is fair.

    I've purchased lightly used owns at pawn shops for $100. Bass Pro or Academy (can't remember which) had them for $139 new at Christmas.

    I agree with everybody who said get it at Wal-Mart.

    If they don't have one in their case when go there, ask them to order you one. They will be happy to comply.

    I am in Vancouver Washington where about a month ago our local Bi-Mart membership stores were selling the 40th year 10/22s for $139.00 plus tax.I bought two of them.One to put away for whatever and the other will be fitted with a folding stock,flashhider,Zepher sights,quick mag release and a laser.

    Dick's Sporting Goods always has them for around $150 for the blued/hardwood 10/22. You should be able to find new 10/22s for under $200 at most gun shops.

    Oshman's had a grand opening sale here for $110, but it was limited to the first 30 customers. I believe the local gun shop has had new ones (blued) for $145.

    Dick's is the place for a cheap one, go get it and don't forget the 30 or 50 round mag. They are a BLAST..
