Copy of Drivers License ?
Just won a Colt cylinder on GB. 28659169. The seller has asked for cert.funds and a ledgeable copy of my drivers license. I wrote him that I was not about to give a copy of my D.L. to anyone. Whats up with the D.L. request ? Any ideas ?

Don't know what he's up to. But, there ain't no way I'd send him a copy of my DL.

Sicne its a part for a handgun, maybe he wants to certify that you are 21 and able to possess such a gun. Thats what I think, though I would'nt send him a copy. 0 -
Throw him a curve and ask for a copy of his as well and see how he replies 0 -
Since it's only the cylinder, he couldn't know if you were just going to use it for a pen holder or paper weight. He definitely does NOT need a copy of your driver's license...or pictures of your wife or anything else but PAYMENT...IMHO! [:0] 0 -
You can always send a photo copy/jpg minus the Dr. Lic. # - leave the pic and all the rest of the info intact. That shouldn't be a problem for age verification. 0 -
Age verification ? Sounds kinda funney to me, born in 1952 ! 0 -
What's the big deal? I request DL for verification of age. Never had a problem. I also return their copy upon sending the gun. 0 -
Was the DL requirement spelled out in the auction before you bid ?
Im with Select ..whats the big deal ? Send the copy and request that its sent back with the item upon shipment.0 -
Maybe if you were paying by personal check, otherwise NO. Did you ask him why?

There are some crooks out there, but his requirement that you pay with certified funds should be more than enough protection for him. I'm with BerettaMan; ask for HIS drivers license first - you're at greater risk of fraud than he is.
Before I pay anyone I don't know more than $100, I verify who he is his through online telephone directories, or other sources. If he is unlisted, I ask for a copy of his drivers license. And, I never, never send payment to a PO box.

You guys are too paranoid.I have sent a copy of my DL many times when buying ammo. The guy just wants proof of age to cover his arse. Can't blame him in this day and age.Of course in my case,i am a very youthful looking 58,so i can understand why they need proof.[:D] 0 -
In many states, it is illegal to make a copy of a drivers license.
However, everyone still does it.

Just got the mail on a sold pistol... DL and a copy of concealed weapons permit. I only ask for DL. BTW.. I have a P.O. Box and never had a problem with a sale. However the guy is having his FFL send his license separate. Some FFL's will not give a file copy.. What is that about? BTW.. I only take Postal money orders.. 0
