What is the difference between a series 70 and a series 80 1911 .45 pistol. I have seen the Dan Wesson advertised as series 70. I have a Kimber Gold match, is that a series 80 or 70?

Hello,
The biggest difference in series 70 or 80 is a firing pin block. The old series 70 Colts did not have them the new series 80 Colts did. Hence everybody says series 70 or 80. With Kimber the firing pin block is designated by series I or series II. A Kimber Stainless Target is considered a series I. A Kimber Stainless Targer II is the series II with the firing pin block. Kimber is marked on the slide on the series II's , but not the series I's. Now we can talk about the different ways the firing pin block is over come. It is different on Colts and Para's than on Kimbers. Oh if your Kimber Gold match does not have a II at the end it is a series 70. Hope this helps.0 -
The series 70 Colt government models also had a collet type bushing instead of a solid bushing. I think the finish and fitting on them was overall nicer as well.
The big difference in the Kimber series one and two pistols is the series two guns have an external extractor.0
