find out when a Rifle was made, Mine is a Winchester model 70, I phoned the part's department at Winchester, Needed a trigger gaurd the person their could NOT tell me when it was made, all they said was that it was made for WallMart to sell, I bought it used. I dont understand, can some one help me on this????????????

If you post the serial number, ( X out the last two or three digets ). I'm sure one of our knowledgeable members can help you determine, date of manufacture.

If it was made for walmart it has to be a post 64 model. What you need to know is it a "Ranger" style with no floorplate or magazine opening on the bottom of the stock , just a guard over the trigger, or the regular model with floorplate. If it is the Ranger type they are all the same, if it has a floorplate is it a long or short action ?you will have to specify length .The caliber will tell you length. Brownells has them in their parts catalog . Gun Parts Corp. has them also. 0 -

Not true... especially so for the newer (modern) Winchesters. Serial numbers on the post-64 Model 70s are a convoluted mess to say the least, and when you add in those that were specifically made for retail store sale, it gets worse[:(]
