I've heard lots of folks tell me that they got great service from Taurus when parts on their guns broke. On the other hand, I can't recall hearing anyone complain that their S&W broke.

I'd rather have the gun that is unlikely to break; get the S&W.

The only reason I would get the Taurus is if I could not afford the Smith. That said, Taurus makes a decent product, but its not a Smith and Wesson.

Oh yea, I have done quite a bit of shooting with a Smith and Wesson mountain gun, 4 inch barrel, very accurate, and painfull as hell to shoot. Much anyway with magnum loads.

I've had a model 29 Classic 5" for many years now. It has never had a problem and is always dead on. As was said before, the only reason to not buy the S&W is if you can't afford it. I've friends who have bought Taurus handguns over the years, they all liked them. I can't think that any of them still have them though............

I have 2 4" Smiths, a model 29 and a 629. They are both accurate smooth operating guns. Never had a problem with either. I nominate S&W.

I carry a S&W Backpacker which has a 3" barrel when I go out. I usually load the 44 Spls for first two rounds with the remainder being full load 44 magnums. It is a handful, but controllable with practice.

I used the S/W 629-4inch and I ended up with the S/W 329 PD-4inch for backpack, it is light and around $600.00, Les

Thanks for all your comments guys. I own a 44 D.E. it shoots dead on but, it's just to heavy to pack around. It's like this story, I carred a M 14 36 years ago I picked one up the other day, it sure has gained a lot of weight over the years. I think I'll go with the S&W.
