german nazi 98k
I,am loooking for any info on a mod.98 I have. I was told the rifle was GI trophy from WWII. All numbers on this rifle are matching, even the bolt. The year on this rifle is 1939 with the numbers 243 above. The matching numbers on this rifle are 4548 with an x under it and the nazi crest to the left. These numbers appear on almost every element of this rifle. 7.9 is stampped on the top of the barrel. A small stamp appears on the rifle several times with the number 26 under it. This gun is in great shape with original sling. Any info on this rifle or value would be great.

Get a hold of a copy of Richard Law's book "Backbone of the Wehrmacht." All the info you will need. Sounds like you got a winner on your hands. Let me know.

Not enough information Posted to give any kind of intelligent answer.
We need to know every Mark, Number and where Placed...? Condition, Caliber? Short Rifle or Standard Rifle.....When You say Crest are you Looking at the Top of the Reciever Ring? This is where the Crest would be Stamped unless its an "s" coded Weapon................On the side of the Reciever You will find Nazi Acceptance Marks....Whats the Condition of this Piece? are there [3] Letters stamped on top of the Reciever Ring...? They would be Lower case...Like <dov> or <svw> What shape is the Metal, Stock, Top Hand Guard....etc....For anyone to place a value on something We hav'nt seen is next to impossible...At the very least Post answers to the questions I've asked and I'm sure that I or someone will be along to help you out....Best............

"243" code was for the Mauser factory in Berlin. This type of numerical code was used up to the early years of the war, approximately 1940.
If the condition of the rifle is "factory original", very good to excellent condition it would have substiantial collector interest and value.0 -

The stamp is "waA" over "26" it is the "Waffenamt Code", i.e. ordinance inspection code. It was the particular number assigined to the chief inspector of the Berlin district. Many different firearms made in the Berlin area will be found with this code.0
