What scope to get
I talked to my local gunshop today and im really thinking about buying ethier a remington model 700 adl from him or this used ruger that im not sure what model it is. If i buy ethier gun i will have about a $100 to spend on a moderatley powed scope. any suggestion on what one to buy?

id personally save a bit more cash for a scope you want vs. a scope you can afford at the present moment. i was in your same shoes about 3 months ago...bought the gun, saved for a month or so a bought a burris ballistic plex scope for $199 and couldnt of been happier. my 2c

MH is correct about saving up a lil more. I am not trying to be a jerk but you get what you pay for when it comes to optics. If you only plan to plink at a 100 yards or whatever, then I guess you can get away with a 100 dollar scope. If you plan on doing any hunting or real target shooting than save your cash and buy a decent scope. Super Sniper Scopes run 400.00 brand new and they are the best optics in their price range IMHO 0 -

You won't get anywhere with a $100 scope - at least not in my opinion.
With a rifle like a Remington like that, you'd be pulling down the overall quality by putting on a scope like what you might find for $100.
A rifle is only as good as the scope you put on it - you can have the finest matchgrade rifle and a 50$ scope - and the setup won't be worth more than a cheap setup when all comes to all.
I got an Ansh?tz .22lr rifle where the 80$ scope did nothing but pull down the general feeling of it all and didn't do much in clarity or accuracy.
As an experiment (as I just sold my Steyr Scout rifle, but not the Schmidt&Bender scope) I put on the real riflescope on the Ansh?tz - and I have never regret it.
So now I have a 600$ rifle with an awesome scope on that is worth more than twice the rifle itself.
But not I enjoy the clarity, accuracy and the overall feeling.
It is a joy to shoot.
When I had the 80$ Nikko Stirling scope on - I sometimes wished I didn't buy that and at the range wished I had a tool to take it off.
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

All the above posters are correct in what they say. However, I sell a lot of rifles like you mention and the money may not be readily available for a fine scope. I stock only the Bushnell Banner series of scope in the lower price scope range. I sell either a 1.5-4.5 or a 3-9 scope with Weaver bases and rings for a total of $125. mounted on your rifle and I will assist you in proper scope placement and sighting in. These scopes will hold up, are clear and will do the job until you can afford something more expensive. 0 -

MN Hunter gives good advice if you are on a budget,
for $100 more you can get a really GOOD Burris. There is also a package out there (check GB auctions) that include a 20x spotting scope free with the purchase of the same scope...well I think those packages are available for $230.
You get a good spotting scope that will make sighting in easier (less walking down range to check your hits)and all future practice/plinking sessions more enjoyable!!![:)]0 -

Another problem with the low to middlen quality scope is that when you have learned better and gotten a good scope, you still have then old one hanging around and you have a hard time even giving it away. Still if you have to, buy the rifle in a caliber that won't be a scope killer. Leupold or Burris are what I'd do. 0 -
Everyone that says get a good scope is correct. However,that being said,NC star is made by the factory that makes the Chinese military scopes and claim their scopes will survive a 50cal. Lifetime replacement warranty. VERY cheap,with some good reviews. Just a thought.You can check them here. You would be better off buying a mossberg bolt action at Walmart for $250 and then spending more on a nice Leupold Scope.

Leupolds are over-rated and over priced. The burris line will deliver anything the leupy can, but at a better price. I have sold all 3 leupold MK IV's I had and replaced them with products more in keeping with their price tag. Watch the auctions and buy a Burris signature series used or at the least a FFII.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

We are all laying it on you, but a $700 rifle with a $100 scope is a $100 rifle. Save up, hunting season is not til fall, unless you are varminting, and then you have even more reason for a quality scope. If you just can't stand to wait: Bushnell. 0
