Red Dot needed for 597 help!

I need to put a Red dot sight on a Remington 597 that is being used to teach hunters ed. I ordered a weaver style rail for the 597, and a cheap Simmons red dot. The problem is that the cross slots in the rail are too far apart for the sight to fit. Can anyone recommend a longer red dot scope that would fit the 597 base. Please keep in mind, the cheaper the better.

    Nevermind, I just noticed that if you turn the mounts upsidedown on the scope, then it will clamp onto the 22 rail that is built into the top of the 597.

    and if all else fails take a good file to the mount and cut 1 new slot
