bobski, here are those two High Standards
These are the two new High Standards I picked up today and once again I appreciate you sending me the instruction sheet for the Trophy I bought last week. This is the GB Model with 6-3/4 inch barrel and since I have fairly small hands the so called "short frame is not much of a problem for me. Just a bit of wear at the muzzel, otherwise a very nice looking pistol.
Here is the Sharpshooter. the serial number would indicate the pistol was produced in around 1973 and it has the walnut stocks. I am a big fan of the standard or slant grip and I think that this pistol shoud prove to be a real sweet shooter.

on the gb, with the slide back, bend the bbl and frame at the dovetail area sideways (like youd snap a pencil in 2) to see if the bbl has side slop. then try it with the slide closed and see if it improves.
last year of the slant grip sharpshooter. great gun. though lacking a lot of features, it will still serve you fine! i had numerous of this model. no bbl wt adapter holes, no compensator grooves, no grooved bbl surface, no backlash screw, no sear adjustment.0 -
hey...keep an eye out for an EXACT pair of those trigger logo wood grips on your s. shooter! i need a set. i have a set of wood w/o the logo's...(late 73 sharpshooter) but i need an early set like yours! 0 -
Sorry, I had some technical problems! The GB locks up very tight and the release lever was stiff but finally let go and the barrel slid off. Frankly I like this release system better than the later pistols but I am sure that it is not as secure. I like the feel of the slant grip Sharpshooter and look forward to shooting it and I will try the Green Tags as you suggested I use in the Trophy. Here is my entire High Standard collection: The Sharpshooter, the GB, the Trophy, and a US Property marked HD which I was given by an old vet 20+ years ago. Where he got it from is better left undisclosed!

was the dovetail slid on all the way with the lever engaged when the bbl slid off? slide the bbl on the frame, and with the slide back, push the muzzle down on a wood surface hard to see if it clicks in. actually, you may like the dovetail better, but its a worse design than the post and button. dovetails wear and you get side slop causing your gun to shoot l&r.
it appears you have a gun from each basic class: fixed bbl, long frame, dovetail, short frame, military frame, slant grip frame. all working class guns that will shoot for years to come. btw..if you need a set of old wood thumb rest grips for your u.s., let me know!0 -
based on what youve shown me, all you really need to make a well rounded collection would be an eagle logo citation. your sharpshooter is ok, but it doesnt have all the features i listed in the other post. this one does and since this one is a 102 series, it is the 1st year production with the original mag in the white. one flaw to the 104 series guns is slides are not interchangable with earlier guns due to machining changes. 102's and 103's are considered the prime rib of hi std's and fully interchangable. 0 -
A beautiful pistol bobski and with the box (which are tough to find) but that is why you are an advanced collector and I am just a humble enthusiast. Of course if you want to talk M1s I'd be happy to turn the tables on you!

the g-380 is about 100% uglier. thats how you can tell a 380 from a 22![:D] 0
