Single action vs. double action

What is the differences between the two? What are the pros and cons of each.

  SA you must cock the hammer evey time to fire the gun. DA you can cock the hammer manual and fire or just pull the trigger and fire.

  Yes there are single action semi-autos where you must cock the hammer for the first shot.
