Savage model 24

How does a person date the Savage model 24 22 over 410? Does anyone know what years they were manufactured? I have a couple with wood stocks and the barrel selector on the side. Any help will be appreciated.

    The 22-410 was originaly made by Stevens starting in 1938.Then in 1950,Savage took over and put their name on it and over the years made several variations and still make a couple versions today.First off,if there is no serial number,we can safely say that it was made before 1968.That tells us that it's either a Model 24,a Model 24DL or a Model 24S.Does it have the top-lever opening or side-lever?
    Stevens/Savage are not famous for keeping records of when their guns were made,which makes it very difficult(if not down right impossible) to pin down an exact DOM.If it Does have a serial number,then we can narrow it down in the other direction.

    No serial# and top lever. So, it should be sometime between 1950 and 1968. Right?

    The top lever knocks out the Model 24S.
    Now,unless it has a satin-chrome-finished frame decorated with game scenes,checkered Monte Carlo stock and forearm,which would be the Model 24DL(made 1965-69),you have the basic Model 24 which was made 1950-65.

    However,around here,I've never seen one in "Excellent" condition go for less than $200 and most are closer to $300.

    I did get lucky a few weeks back and got 1938-40 Stevens 22-410 that's in about 60% condition for $120.[:D]
