AK kits with receiver around $200. Built SAR-1 $300, or up
AR kits with reciever around $500, built $600-up
Too many configurations to set a "set" price.
Just what ever trips your trigger.

well, i paid $350 for my WASR-10. and $725 for my bushmaster AR-15. but it really depends on where you are and what configuration you want, especially in the AR-15, mine is a standard A2 20''. i buy most of my guns at gun shows, we have really big ones here in portland but i dont know about where you live.

If you kust want a shooter/plinker the AK is the way to go cost wise. you need to look at accesories you might want and which system will give you the platform to do this. Another consideration is the calibur of the rifle. Most AR's are going to be 5.56. Most AK's are going to be 7.62X39. There are exceptions to this rule. The SAR-3 is a 5.56 AK anf there are 7.62X39 uppers for the AR. My 2 cents [8D]

Having both I would recommend the AK.

In my opinon, the best deal on a heavy-duty, well fitted AK with superb metalurgical properties, is a Bulgarian from Arsenal.
Arsenal Inc. imports them in legal U.S. configuration and Atlantic
Firearms has them on Gunbroker.com. The SLR-101 Hi-Cap or the SAM-7
    are both first-rate.
I bought a WASR-10, and it was such a POS when I got it I sent it back untouched. I bought the SLR and it is a terrific value.
