    I have hunted both in MT without a guide. No success on elk, weather is so all important. Good success on deer.

    I suggest you request reference list of their past clients. They will give you the ones with the best results of course, but ask questions like gear, how well the camp is equiped, quality of horses, knowledge of the guides. It does not hurt to find out how many tags are assigned to these guides. MT Dept of Game and Fish or Natural Resources should be able to tell you how long these guys have been in business.

    It is a crapp shoot. You never know exactly how those things will turn out. I guess that is why the call it an adventure.

    Ask if they hunt private and public lands or public only.

    I know that personally I have been very disappointed in the cost of MT hunts the last few years.
