How are the new generation Weaver scopes? Advantages and disadvantages Is the glass any good ? Where are they made ?

    When did Weaver make the transition of a steel tube to an aluminum tube for their scopes? There seem to be a lot of steel tubes still around.

    There is a Weaver scope repair service in El Paso Tx. try contacting them. This place has no connection to the current Weaver scope co. It is for the old U.S.made weavers and is not a free or warranty service.

    Frankly, given the value of older Weaver scopes, which is modest, I doubt it will be worth the expense, unless you just want to do it for a project. Cheaper to pick up a working model, and either way you will have a decent for the times, but very outclassed scope by todays standards. Have fun!

    The phone # for Weaver in El Paso is 915-593-1005.I sent them a k-4 stainless a couple of years ago.The lenses were clouded up,and was showing some age.They gave it new lenses,new tube,an eyepiece,and they make sure the crosshairs are still calibrated.Very nice work,and if I remember,it only cost around $78.00. At the same time I wanted to fix a k-6 with fine crosshairs but was told parts were no longer available. So give a call and good luck.

    P.S.- don't let anyone discourage you with comments on the quality of an older weaver. If you have new lenses installed it will be as good as anything. Also weaver's micro-trac turrets are about the best ever made.

    $78 is about what a k-4 is worth in like-new original condition. Thus, hardly worth it for a gunsmith if he is trying to sell the scope. May be worth while if you are doing it for your self and want a period scope on an older rifle for example, but it is still a mass produced scope 30 to 40 years old and without full multicoating. Don't get me wrong, I own several older Weavers and a Grand Slam, but the old ones are just not the equal of even the economy scopes of today in terms of optics.

    Just trying to give a little helpful info. The one I had redone was a true stainless scope,and $78 isn't a bad deal.Waever still has new k4s scopes for $160.New optics or old,that little 4x is overall one of the best scopes I own.I also have several grand slams,nikons,and such.As for the new lenses that are put in their refurbished scopes,I don't know if they are old product or new. All I was trying to say was the service for the money to me was worth every penny!

    Hey Guys;

    Thanks for all the info, you guys rate top notch in my books...Found the Weaver repair shop in El Paso and talked with em. Looks like about $50 plus S&H and time...I am restoring a '63/64 issue transition 220 Swift Model 70 and a period Weaver would be perfect...yet this 8x I have isn't worth the time and effort to repair so I'm sending it back and continuing the search...
