Ghost ring sights
I was wondering if anyone had any info on the superiority or inferiority of ghost ring sights to the iron sights on hand guns. Basically, I was wondering if I should switch over. Thanks

I think its really a personal preference, I don't personally care for them on handguns, but I have a set on a Remingtom 870 and I love them. If you have access to renting or borrowing one to try out at a range that may help you make up your mind, although I hav not seen many to rent with ghost ring sites at ranges. A ghost ring is a large peep sight---right? So, if a peep sight and just a general centering of the target is what you're looking for, then a ghost ring should work. But...you'll find that a ghost ring doesn't cut it for precision work. We can better help you if you'll state the usage for the weapon and sight. Self-defense? Target? Plinking? General all-around use? Personally, I'd only recommend the ghost ring for medium close-up defense use, 15 yds. and closer. You wouldn't want it for hunting ol'Bambi at 100 yds. You wouldn't want it for shooting a bad guy at 50 yds. Probably not at 25 yds.--although that could go either way. So, just grasping around in the dark here, I'd suggest going with the traditional blade front, notch rear; probably blaze orange front and white outline rear.[:D] 0 -
I like the sights for rifles. I don't think it would work well for short range pistol shooting but longer shots it should do well. It is supposed to give you an optical illusion in the center of the rear aperture. A little white ghost. Line that, the front post and the target up and you have a very accurate combination. That is essentially how people can shoot very long ranges open sights better than with blade sights.
