Anyone NOT like Kimber?
It seems like its always Kimber this and that. Shot one a couple of times, I hit what I was shooting at, but just compared a Custom II and a Sig P220. It felt like the Kimber was really unbalanced and not solidly built. Now I KNOW Im comparing a 1911 design and a "new fandangled design" but as far as just guns go, I dont think Im a big fan (of the price either).

Gun shoots left...front sight obviously installed ROC.
Try calling Kimber for customer service...Lots of New York attitude and very little help.
Pretty arrogant for what they charge (arrogant, period).
I will have different sights installed when I get time.
Oh yeah, FTF about once out of 50 with factory ball.
Other than that, glowing.

I've shot hundreds of rounds through my Kimber (wide variety of loads) never had any kind of malfunction. Best 1911 on the market (mho of course)Gloc is a well made gun and very popular with LEO's however this ex-LEO never cared for the feel or "my" accuracy when shooting them, and I shot the model 17, 19 and 22. I cannot comment on Kimber's customer service because i never had a need to talk to them. Many LEO's are returning to the 1911 and some to those are choosing Kimber. I agree! I dont understand what the big deal is. I have a Colt 1911, 1991 compact, Springfield compact and my duty gun is a Sig p220. My Kimber is my least favorate. I have a Kimber Pro Tactical II (NIB) that I'm trying to trade for another P220. 0 -
If you actually need a Government Model then just buy a Series 70 Colt and move along with your life. 
When you need a .45 DA service automatic your search starts and ends with the P220

I have never heard anything bad about the Sig P220. There are several 1911A1 besides the Kimber that work well. Several have been mentioned them here. Pick up a P220 and shoot it. Pick up a quality 1911A1 and shoot it and then decide for your self. There is no wrong choice here. Just what you prefer. [8D]

I agree, if you want a government model - buy a Colt. These are great guns.
But if you want a tack driving machine, no breakage, extreme accuracy, no FTF, no fte, great trigger, smooth, tuned, absolutely tight, and well balanced then buy the Kimber.
I own both a Colt Government Model and a Kimber Gold Match. They are not -repeat not- the same gun. Its like a Corvette compared to a Ford Focus, nothing wrong with either, the Corvette just handles and performs better. You will spend at least another couple hundred dollars getting an already overpriced government model to shoot decent and it still won't shoot as good as the Kimber. When I need a carry gun to take a beating and knock around the government model is fine - it is a good defensive gun. When I want to shoot and hit something all the time, then the Kimber is the choice. It is also much easier to handle with a 3.5 pound trigger and well fit slide.

Well if you actually want a .45 pistol for serious target work I say why settle for the Corvette (the pride of Detroit) when you can own a Porsche from HK
Or a Swiss made Oerlikon (the 20mm cannon folks from Zurich) which is built like a Rolex

I have a stable full of 1911's and my Kimber is one of my LEAST favorite.Its just hype and advertising,My most favorite is Dan Wesson with my Wilson following close behind but costing 3x more.Too me Springfield is making a better 1911 than Kimber but this is just my opinion.The best bang for the buck in a 1911 is still a good sistema,I bought another one off of brand X last week for $315 still in its original blue and all matching numbers bought one here on GB a few weeks back,it had not been fired since it was rearsenaled and parkerized for $300 even including shipping

Give you a little history about Kimber 1911's, back before Kimber existed you had your choice of Colt, Springfield Armory, and Auto Ordnance. Most people back then would buy one of these 3 makes and send it to a custom shop to get such things as beaver tail grip safetys, dove tailed sights, videcky triggers, lowered ejection ports, etc put on. These were considered customizations to the gun and usually aided towards reliability and comfort of shooting.
Kimber came on the scene and offered all these things on their standard gun. Kimber almost put Colt and Springfield out of business by offering a better more custom (all the above mods) factory gun (made in America). Springfield Armory finally caught on, shipped it's manufacturing (jobs!!!) to Brazil, and has copied Kimber ever since. Colt seems to be constantly in & out of business.
I have a Series 70 Colt Government Model that I inherited from my father. What a turd! Stovepipe queen! $500 worth of gunsmith and it still works most of the time. My Kimber however has been great.
I have owned both a USP and a Sig 220. I don't own them anymore. Never got the hype over the 220. Dang thing liked to eject ever shell casing into my forehead. Trigger was ok but no where near 1911. Traded it off.
Usp 45 was ok, I couldn't shoot it very well. Reliability for me was so so. Traded it off.
Glock 21 still own and shoot often. Can't shoot it as well as my Kimber, Colt, Rock Island, or Springfield. But damn is it reliable!
All these guns are good, trying to say which is the "best" is a waste of breath. Find what you shoot best with and go with it. Me I'll stick with my Glocks and 1911's.

My Springfield Compact has just worked...from day one. I know it has less sex appeal that a Kimber or Sig but for its intended purpose I don't think you can find better value.

I have never been that impressed with Kimbers. They are OK. But I prefer (and shoot) the first "Porsche" that Mark C posted a picture of. I do LIKE and shoot the 220 also.
Just with he would learn to reduce the size of his pics, so as not to stretch the screen. [;)]

My Dad shoots the Kimber and loves it. I can out shoot him with my Springfield 1911. I also love my Glock 21, Sig 220, and Norinco 1911. Buy a gun you like and feels good in your hand.

I own 2 Kimbers and I like them. They are both pre-II series. I have 5 Series 70's. I have never had one that I didn't have to work on to get it work right. I looked at one of the new 70's that MC has pictured. I don't know if the new ones are better than the old ones, but the one I looked at was $100 more than I paid for my Les Baer Premier II that I bought last year. It doesn't have a checkered front strap and does have a cheap looking short adjustable trigger. When you get in the $1500 range, I think the Les Baer is the better buy. 0 -
I think they are highly over rated ,the series one was a good gun ,now they plan on selling 5,000 guns a week in 05 ,wow! what a goal ,but at what price ?{ie,quality control}
I myself get tired of "out of the box accuracy", this should not be an issue with any gun ,and I know a few people personally that has as much money in a kimber as I do in a Wilson combat due to trying to get it to work correctly ,so much for "out of the box"
