Changing the barrel on a Walther P22

I have a California edition 5" Walther P22, I would like to add the interchangable 3.43" barrel but the book and parts do not add up. For all other barrels you have a wrench to unthread the barrel nut, on the California edition, there is no slots or wrench. I'd hate to ruin it by grabbing it with vise grips. Does anyone know the secret to removing the barrel? Somehow I think it is soldered and I don't want to ruin a new gun but I also don't want to send $300 just to have a short barrel edition either.

    being a CA model I don't belive it has a threaded barrel and is interchangable. The reason it is CA compliant is it doesn't have a threaded barrel. I think you'll need to find the 3.4 CA barrel

    I'm not sure, but their was talk about CA calling the P22 an assault weapon because it had a threaded barrel. I would assume they mad it CA compliant by permently attaching the barrel, therefore you will have to by a whole new gun if you want the other barrel. It would be easier and more satisfying if you would move to a state that has commonsense gun laws.

    It does look like there is a barrel nut on the end, the barrel and the sleave are seperate pieces. Not sure if it is a press on or threaded and silver soldered. My bet is it is still threaded as it would be less design changes. The sleave is the piece with the thread not the barrel it self (according to the pictures in the book)

    I could cut it off and then buy another 5" barrel, seems a bit drastic but then this is Kalifornia.
