Another Movie Gun Question

I have seen these on here from time to time and usually it is an easy ID but I got a goody but an oldie movie question. I was watching my collection of 80's action movies and popped in Red Heat starring Schwarzenegger and Belushi and I would like to know what the hell kind of gun The Arnold uses in the movie. It kind of has the look of a Margolin target pistol only about twice as large. Later on I know he uses a 44 mag but in the first third to half its a wierd looking piece.

    It was a Desert Eagle that was modified for the movie.

    yeah that drove me nuts for a while...podbyrin or some such name in the movie...prop gun....somewhere i ran across a company that makes or modifies weapons for movie use but have lost bookmark...was intersting how they designed guns for different genre of movies.....

    There was a gentleman that lived in The Colony , Texas that built what I believe were called "form " guns that were crafted and milled from wood before the final prop gun was made. He was my uncle's neighbor and built them in a workshop at his house. He made alot of the mock ups for several movies that Arnie was involved with . We were able to see the weapons used in Terminator and if memory is right Judge Dread (sp?) with Sly Stallone. Really works of art that originated from wood.

    I suggest a grass roots movement to require captions that identify all weapons used on TV or in movies. I just go crazy trying to guess.
    And, it is vital to understanding the plot.
