I need to know the approximate value of a used, early mini-14. It's in excellent shape except for some storage dings on the stock. It has the early Garand type rear sight and a gold bead front sight like on 10/22's. Serial # is 180-0049X. I understand the first thousand or so were either "Bridgeport" or "Southport" models before they moved. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 0 -
The 180 series have a much lower value. A large number of the parts are not interchangeable with the later models & are unobtainable.
Many people have broken parts on the bolts & cannot get replacements.
Stocks are unobtainable. I have seen reports that Ruger will buy the guns back but for a fairly small price. I sold mine when I couldn't get a new stock to replace the one that had been converted to a folder. (Because of a new Kalifornia law that was about to go into effect.)0 -
Idaho..... I have 4 Mini-14's. one of which is a 180 series. The roller on the bolt cam broke.
I sent the entire gun to Ruger for repairs. They not only replaced the broken bolt roller cam, but went through the gun and replaced a couple other parts they felt needed replacement. They returned my gun in a new Ruger rifle box, all this at no cost at all.
This was about 10 years ago, and they may now have run out of parts for these older guns. The bolt roller on the caming surface with the operating rod is one of the parts that is different from the newer Mini's. They have eliminated the roller in favor of a solid caming surface that engages the op rod.
As far as value goes, neither the Blue Book nor the Standard Catalog differentiate in values between the 180 series Mini's and the newer models. Your gun sound like it may fall in the good to very good catagory which would put it at about $300.00 to $350.00 range.
The Blue Book does indicate you can add 25% for Southport models with gold bead front sight.
