Savage Model 99

I HAVE A SAVAGE 99. I KNOW FROM THE SERIAL# IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1940. HOWEVER IT DOES NOT HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99" (A B C D E EG EGR F G R RS T K ETC ETC)STAMPED ANY WHERE THAT I CAN SEE. IS THERE SOMEPLACE WHERE I CAN FIND THE EXACT MODEL DESIGNATION THAT I HAVE?
THE RIFLE IS CHECKERED, HAS A PISTOL GRIP, 24"BARREL, BEAD SIGHT IN A RAISED RAMP, SCHNABEL FORE-END. HOWEVER AS I SAID IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE WORDS "MODEL 99"STAMPED ANYWHERE ON IT LET ALONE THE LETTER IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY IT. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND HELP IN SOLVING THIS MYSTERY!!

    I've been looking for a Savage Model 99 .243 cal. for a long time without luck. I know they were manufactured per Savage literature, but they must be rare. Originally, they were manufactured to introduce kids and wives to hunting and shooting. Any ideas?

    Maybe around $400.00 for 99C. Quite a few 99's around in different variations starting with the 1899.

    According to the Blue Book, there are 33 different Savage 99 models out there.

    If you wanted to collect Savage 99s and wanted an example of every model in every caliber and barrel length available for it, you'd end up with 3,457,832,974,621,258,757 rifles and carbines and 4 muskets..... [:D]

    That number is nonsense! I don't know how many were manufactured, but I would quess no more than a million. Roughly six million M1 rifles were manufactured. A million is a lot.

    Hey gnix, Xracer is as right as one can be on such a subject. there are 33 different models in a great number of different calibers acording to bluebook, but each of those models came in many different configurations. not sure when savage stopped but for some time you could special order different options on different 99s and every so often I cross paths with an uncatalouged 99. special order? maybe, or one someones put together at home. There is nobody that can tell me what savage options actually were offered.there is the 1899 and the 1895 that are the granfathers of the (99) very similar to the modern 99. I have put together a collection of 99s over a period of 25 years and still find new options and put togethers all the time. Here in midwest your gun would bring somewhere between $450 to $500.

    J. Patrick Tatum... You apparently missed the fact that Xracer was simply interjecting some humor into his reply (which is what the [:D] is for). What he was actually stating, is that there was a plethora of different Model 99s manufactured.

    Well, I am with J.Patrick, Savage never made that many guns counting all models. Why heck, even BertH doesn't have that many![}:)]
