Barrel Threading
Can anyone recommend a gunsmith/machinist in the phoenix area to thread the end of a stainless barrel? Also is the torque spec on an AR-10 platform barrel nut the same as the Ar15?

Looking for a gunsmith that will do a very good job on threading a 10/22 barrel. Any recommendations?

Which end do you want threaded and for what? The 10-22 is not a screw into the receiver design. 0 -
Sometimes you can find one here at GB that has already been done.

Thanks for the reply guys. I want to thread the muzzle end. Yes, I have seen them on GB but I have a brand new barrel and would like to use it.

What part of the world do you live in? I'm in south central PA and

Any good machineshop should be able to do the trick.
Just remember, if it is stainless, they should use good cooling while making the thread.
I have threaded a lot of barrels, and have had no trouble with anu barrels - while not a gunsmith myself, I do have an education covering the use of a lathe.
The steel in Ruger 10/22 stainless tends to be somewhat brittle, so you might have to have the thread made not using the thread-cutting club/nut or what it is called overthere.
It should be made little by little on slow rpm, with toolbit-steel and excessive cooling to be good.
The question would be - if you can ind a machineshop who want the job.
But any good gunsmith with a lathe should be able to do it.

This is just an example. You would want it in the appropiate size offcourse.
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

I'm in the Indy area - not too far. I go to New Castle every once in a while - relatives on my dad's side. If you would be interested please e-mail me. Time is not a problem. This is a good size project and I'm looking at June or so to be finished.

Not sure what HappyNanoq means with the reference to a "thread-cutting club/nut". He might be referring to a die nut? Anyway, don't even think about a die nut; you're lucky if they ever go on straight. Those threads need to be cut with the barrel between centers on a lathe.
