    bfzmlp7,

Hopefully, you have the owners manual that came with the gun! These can be a real PITA to field strip if you don't follow the exact instructions. I won't even attempt to explain the procedure. This one is best read and followed precisely.

If you have no manual you can get the instructions off the web. Do a search on Ruger 22/45 and you will find the instructions there somewhere. Also, if you don't have a manual you can call Ruger and request a manual for your model. Manuals are sent free of charge.

should have a pdf version here. it is a weird setup, but once you get used to stripping the gun, it is not too bad.

Pull the latch on the back of the grip. Pull Down. Once latch is out then the bolt and all will come out. Clean......

Now the tricky part. Put bolt back in... Then the grip latch into the hole in the bolt. Now before you put the grip latch back into the grip.... Turn the gun upside down and pull the trigger. You will see a metal pin looking piece in the handle and this has to slide under the grip latch or the gun won't work. Then install your grip latch. Check your manual.... PLEASE MAKE SURE GUN IS UNLOADED>>>>

Also for the obivious here, if you need a manual, there is a really long paragraph stamped into your barrel, it tells you how to get a free manual. Once you figure out how to take the bolt out its not that hard, but its a real PITA the first few times.
