Ruger transfer bar retro-fit
How much collecter value does a Ruger single action loose when the gun has been sent back to Ruger for the so called safety conversion kit? Is this modification reversable to once again increase the value? Thanks ...

Much depends on the gun and the quality of the gun. Ruger will return the parts. Most collectors do not want the refit and want the gun kept as a "Three Screw"

If you can take the parts out before you send the gun in, do it, then you can replace them if you want to sell it in original condition. Or you could just carry on an empty cylinder. 0 -
The gun is a bearcat made in 1950's with a three digit serial #

Original 3 digit OM bearcat in 95-98% $700-$800, converted less $100-$200. The conversion kit can be removed and the old parts installed.
I would guess that the old parts will cost $100+. If you can find them.0 -
'The three screw' sounds better when put into full cock. Better to put a rolled up dollar bill in the 'empty chamber' when holstered than to mess with something that's pretty close to pure perfection!

I think I would leave it original also. You can always send it in down the road if you decide that you want it converted, and Ruger will send you the removed parts back, that way you could convert it back if you wanted at a later date.
Personally, I don't think converted models lose any value, if the parts to change it back are included, from what I have seen. The only time I see a decrease in value is when the seller didn't have the parts to convert it back.0 -
I wouldn't convert it and risk Ruger not sending the parts back or me losing them. Why bother converting it in the first place unless you're REALLY that bad about not keeping the hammer down on an empty chamber? 0 -

I know the dollar has lost a lot of value but I don't think it's so bad that a bill will fit in a .22 LR chamber.0 -

I know about the old model deal I have several, I want to buy low and replace the new parts with the old ones and add to my collection, I was just wondering how much the conversion takes away from old model pricing, sorry I wasn't clear on my first post...

load a round then skip a round and then load the rest when the cylinder comes to the full chamber your hammer will be resting on the empty hole for safty
