M1 Muzzle Wear
I am certain that this has been asked before, but I can't find it, so here goes. I know that there is a way to use an M2 ball round as a kind of a "go- no go" gauge by inserting it into the muzzle, and then measuring the amount of the bullet still exposed as a rough and ready method of determining muzzle wear. Can anyone help out with the measurement? Thanks.

Roughly, if 5/16" of copper jacket shows, it's a new barrel. 1/4", it's in excellent condition. 1/8", it is serviceable but not real accurate. If it goes in up to the case, the barrel needs to be replaced.

Thanks, Neal. I've got just a tad over 1/4" on the Greek Service Grade that arrived today, so I'm a happy camper.

Other than the barrel my m1 is a beauty... mine fall right in all the way to the case [:p] ohh well, it was cheap enough and other than the barrel it is in excellent shape, and didnt spend much on it. Still shoots out to 200yds with decent accuracy(by decent i mean with iron sights i can hit paper, and cant tell if its the gun or me thats making it inaccurate) 0 -
