Stevens 311 ID

Hello everyone,

I have refinished an older model Stevens 311a that only has letters on the receiver instead of a serial number. Can anyone give me some information on how to determine this shotgun's age? Some gerneral info or a website perhaps? Thanks for any feedback you may provide. It is greatly appreciated.

    This ain't much,but this is out of the Gun Traders Guide;

    "Model 311 Springfield
    Hammerless Double

    Same general specifications as Stevens Model 530 except earlier production has plain stock and forearm;checkered on current guns.
    Originally produced as a "Springfield" gun,this model became a part of the Stevens line in 1948 when the Springfield brand name was discontinued.Made 1931-89."

    So,since your has no serial number,and numbers were required as of 1968,we can at least narrow it's manufacture date down to 1948-1967.

    I also own a 311 and love how it shoots. I also have the same problem so this info is great. I bought it when I was 16 and am now 47. My barells are pitted and a small bulge before the choke on the mod barrel, but it shoots low brass fine. I just reblued and refinished it. Had to get a new stock, Nurmich was the source.

    I bought a trigger gaurd for a 311A bit that screws into the stock at the rear, mine has a screw hole in the action. I wish that I could ID the exact model.

    I think the older guns were made in Chicopee Falls,Mass.and later ones were made in Westfield if that helps any.

    just a note. serial numbers don't have to be numbers. several gun makers used a series of letters for this. one of my old iver johnson shotguns is #RFFR
