Hi.
I am relatively new to this scene. I am a first time buyer in the market for a handgun. I am looking at a 9mm revolver, though other suggestions are appreciated. Now, I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy which leaves me with weakened muscles, so I was wondering if there is a gun, or a way I could make the gun require less pressure to pull the trigger. Also, because of the same reason, I would like the gun to be relatively light in weight. I would also like it to be a reasonable price, I can't spent ALOT on it. Thanks.

    i'm curious as to what made you decide you wanted a 9mm revolver?
    i'm also curious about who manufactured the one you are "looking at".

    do you actually mean 9mm luger, or just something in the power range of one? 9mm is generally a auto cartridge, though I know you can get a ruger sp101 in that caliber. Do you want a snubby, full size, medium size gun?

    Smith & wessons usually have a decent trigger pull that is smooth and clean, and as much of a ruger fan as I am, smiths have the trigger ou are looking for. Along that vein, there is also taurus, which can be a little more spottier in the longevity department, but comes with a lifetime warranty.

    any of the guys on the board will be able to help you better if you could clear up those questions for us.

    The only reason I said 9mm is because they are the most common. No other reason really. The reason I am looking at a revolver is because 1, they have a less chance of malfunctioning and 2, i've heard they are easier to fire than a pistol. The ones I have been looking at are made by Taurus, but any suggestions are good. Also, I would like it if the gun came with/had the option to ad an aiming light or laser pointer for aiming, i cant (comfortably) aim with line of sight.

    To answer yekimak, I am wanting a smaller one. As I said, weight is an issue. The smaller the better.

    I gather you are looking for something that could be used for personal protection rather than just punching paper? Thus, you are not looking at at .22. I am a fan of revolvers, but would not say they are easier to shoot than semi-auto handguns. The reverse may be true, particularly if shooting double action. If it were me, I would consider semi-auto either with an adjustable trigger, or have a smith do a trigger job to make it a very light pull. Then, be very careful. As to what to buy, best I can suggest is go try some on. In the end, the pistol or revolver you feel comfortable with and confident with is the one you will shoot best for you. That can be a different gun for different people. To save money look for a good used handgun, once you know what you like. Good Luck!

    Well, I would go for something in .38 Special, instead of 9mm, which is similar in power, just as common, and more suited to a revolver than a 9mm.

    Regarding weight, you pay a price. If you get a light gun, there is heavier recoil. If this doesn't bother you, a Smith and Wesson Airlight would be a very nice choice if you want a small, light piece.

    If you are a bit worried about recoil, then you might want to consider a heavier gun.

    Could you recomend a company/website that has adjustable triggered guns? I can't seem to find any via google.

    Since this situation is a little bit out of the norm, perhaps one of our Az members could meet with you in person to help you get a feel for the different operating characteristics of the different styles of handguns. I'm sure we could scronge up someone to help out to make sure you can safely operate whatever it is that you wind up with. I have a few friends in the Phx area if we can't find anyone in Tucson that can help. Let us know if this might be of any help to you.

    HI Gimpi welcome to the forum,, you must answer a few questions first to see if anybody can assist you with your challenges,First, what are you going to use this firearm for? target shooting , personal protection? Second,I noticed in your profile that your a student (do you live on a campus) if so and your wanting this for personal protection you don't need a firearm,, mabey somthing less than lethal...Now with that said, if your looking for personal protection off campus I'm sure someone here can help you find what your looking for. If your just going to be target shooting mabey a .22 cal rifle setup for bench rest shooting would be more to your benefit... Along with calamitywood I to am curious as to why you chose a 9mm revolver,, being relatively new to this scene you have chosen a firearm that is somewhat a curiosity itself?

    If you are worried about the recoil I would probably start looking more toward a semi-auto instead of the revovlers unless you are going with a .22cal. Most brand name semis are just as reliable as revolvers with less recoil. Depending on what you choose the tigger pull should'nt be much of an issue with a semi.
