What is a good scope that does not require a second morgage for a hevy caliber gun.

    How heavy is heavy? A fixed power scope, 2.5X or 4X, would probably be better than a variable. A Weaver should get the job done.

    For an inexpensive scope I sell the currently manufactured Bushnell Banner. Either the 1.5-4.5 or the 3-9 are very good. I have been selling these for years, installed on both large and small caliber firearms and have had not a single failure reported.

    I stay away from Tasco, Simmons, BSA and T/C. Their failure rates are very high.

    leupold offers there basic rifleman 3x9x40 for about $199 and I love mine....I don't know if that was more then what you were looking to spend.

    imay not know it all.....but at least I know that!

    I have a Burris Fullfield on my 30-06. I would not have anything else for that rifle. For $200.00 it is a great scope. Right now they come with a free 20X spotting scope as well. Great value in my opinion.

    nikon as a couple of geat quality scopes for a price you won't have to sell the farm to get.

    Check the pawn shops for a used Redfield, Browning, Burris or Leupold. Often you can find a really nice one for well under $100. Also look for a low priced used rifle with a good scope. Buy the rifle, take the scope off, then re-sell the rifle for what you paid, or more. I have gotten several really nice scopes that way. This is a good time to buy with hunting season so far off. Wait till Fall and you'll have no trouble re-selling a used hunting rifle. As far as good inexpensive scopes, I've had good luck with older Weavers and Bushnells, (not Chinese though).

    Millett makes a good one for 100. Also my pawn shops are over retail on guns and scopes, ect. IMO . nambu

    For a less expensive scope I like the TASCO Mag 4 series. You can get then in different variable combinations. I had a 6 X 24 that I used for ground hog hunting that was incredible.

    I have been doing the opposite. I have several scopes with no guns. Recently got a great deal on a rifle, with a Redfield scope. Didnt need the scope, sold it, wound up paying about $30 for the rifle.

    I agree, this is a hard scope to beat for the money. I have one with the 50mm objective and its clear and bright in low light conditions. So far its held up to the recoil of my 300WSM.
