Win mod 94 Misfire!

I have a Win mod 94 30-30cal that has been misfiring. I had a friend ,that has done a lot of gunsmithing, look at it and he just gave it a good cleaning. Just the other day I had three misfires in a row! What could be the problem here?[:(]

  Make sure that the hammer spring retaining screw is TIGHT.
  Will it fire if you drop the hammer a 2nd or 3rd time on the same cartridge?

  also what is the temps , is it cold ? if it only misfires when its cold out them you may have greese on the firing pin thats getting hard because of the cold , if this is the case give every a good cleaning and leave the firing pin and its spring dry , no greese or oil on them in cold temps

  Does it have the cross-bolt (sideways) safety?

  What vintage is your 94? If it's an older gun, it's possible that it has lost headspace over time. It's a fairly uncommon thing with some older lever guns.
  
  Are you firing factory ammo or handloads? If you're having the misfires only with handloads it opens up a whole new can of worms....
  
  Give us a little more info and I'm sure someone can help you nail it down.

  I have not checked the hammer spring retaining screw. It does fire on the 2nd of 3rd time. I did have a problem with it in the cold, but I had a friend take it all apart and give it a good cleaning( thats all he thought was wrong with it). There is no safety on it. I've fired both factory and reloads through it. It does seem to like the factory better, but I have still had misfires with that. I don't know the year of it, but it is at least an older one because of the lack of the safety.

  Snake, keep us posted. I have a dozen Win 94's, so I'm interested in anything that makes 'em go "Boom."

  check your firing pin length, check for a weak hammer spring.
