Replacement choices for Colt Gold Cup? Kimber? or?
I'm looking for a "semi" custom target 45 ACP, similar to a Colt Gold Cup. Considering the Kimber Gold Match, S&W Performance Center, or Springfield. I'm a paper puncher and prefer crisp, light triggers,. match grade barrel and bushing,etc If you have experience with any of these "target" models I would love to have some feedback

Purchased a stainless Kimber Gold Match as a present for myself on my 40th Birthday just over 6 years ago.
I have been extemely pleased with it. No failures to feed, extremely accurate and just a pleasure to shoot.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
My vote goes to Kimber. Of all teh 1911's I've had, it's my favorite by a long shot. utterly reliable and it's a tack driver (Stainless Target II in 10mm)
It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.0 -

Check out Les Baer. They have some reasonably priced custom 1911's that have some of the tightest tolerances I've seen. Purchased my Premier II for just under $1300. Has some nice checkering on the front strap and the beavertail fit is probably one of the best I've seen. Compares to Wilson's and Ed Brown but cheaper. They also produce the same gun without checkering for less money, but I believe checkering on the front strap to be essential. I have handled the Smith's and shot both Kimber's and Springfield's but the Baer is still my favorite. Most bang for the buck, pardon the expression. 0 -

I agree. Colt Gold Cups are available, and they are unique. Not a single manufacturer, bar none, has ever duplicated the "Gold Cup wide trigger, or its special sear with spring loaded sear assist. The Gold Cup was made for NRA Bullseye, but has been used in all types of competition.

Years ago, when I was young in the business and starting to spread my wings, the sport of IPSC was born. I would always compete with a Colt Gold Cup instead of one of my expensive custom pistols, that way if I did poorly I could blame it on the "Gold Cup" instead of one of mine. The Gold Cups always did very well, could never talk them down.
You can spend more money in one of several pricey (but worth it) pistols like Wilson, Baer, Brown, or even one of mine (Radical Precision), but none has the "history of performance" quite like a Colt Gold Cup.0 -
You really can't go wrong with good quality from Colt or Kimber. But, a Gold Cup, is a Gold Cup. Hate to say it again but, if it's not a Colt, it's just a copy. 0 -
Kimber Gold Match any day over a Colt Gold Cup.
Buy a Kimber, take it out of the box and shoot it. Buy a Colt, take it out of the box, put in the mail, ship it to a smith, have it worked on, spend a few more hundred, then shoot it. I've shot a few Gold Cups and was not impressed at all. May have the COOL factor because its a Colt and all but I rather have a shooter that is a copy rather than a COOL GUN.

I personally do not own one, but I have heard some good things about the 1911 made by sigarms called the GSR 1911. And I have never met a sig owner that was not proud of his/her gun. 0 -
With this I just retired my Gold Cup into the grandkids pile and am extremely happy with it.
