Sig P-232 or Walther PPK/S

Is there an advantage of getting one over the other? They are very similar in shape and size. I need something that is a little less bulky for work.

    There's no point in getting a PPK/S unless you can save money; if you are buying a new one, get the PPK, as it has a shorter frame. The PPK/S was only a gimmick to get around import restrictions.

    On the other hand, I don't like either in .380, as they slap my hand so hard it hurts. I've heard good things about the Sig, but haven't fired one.

    Personally, if bulk is a problem, I prefer the J-frame S&W.

    My two cents, I have heard several of my associates whining about jambing and mis-feeds with the PPK's. I dont know the cause of the problem other than the dept. armorer was of the impression it was mag related. Our group was issued Sigs over two years ago and we do not have a tenth of the problems we had with Glocks.
    I own the 229 & 239 both great performers.

    I have both, and I am leaning towards the Sig. Here's why:

    1. Sig does not have an external safety; it has a decocker, and you simply pull the trigger, and it goes bang. It also has an internal firing pin safety, and the walther doesn't. I know that there have been some changes to the walther with the S-1, but mine doesn't have a firing pin block.

    2. Sig may be marginally less expensive.

    3. Sig has a heel release on the mag; remember, this is a gentleman's gun; if you need to be changing mags, you are in deep s--- with either pistol. Since it will carried concealed, no need to worry about accidentially releasing the mag.

    4. I have one of the firsk PPK/s-1's. Works like a champ, but there is a nasty tool mark near the trigger guard hinge. Then, in a walther ad in the most recent American Handgunner (I think, I don't recall) they show one, that has similar tool marks in the same area. And then, to top it off, the ad copy contains and extra "a" between words. If you are going to advertise, put your best foot forward....

    My buddy is a police officer and carrys the Sig as a backup. I shot it at the range one day and was impressed how well it shot. Not something you want to shoot all day, it will wear out your hand.

    The 232 is the only Sig I haven't fired. I'm planning on getting one, just to have a complete set.[:D] You can never go wrong with a Sig.

    I have fired the sig and I do like it. I also own a Walther PP which has the same frame a PPK/s but with a longer slide and barrel. I dont know how big your hand size it but a pp or ppk/s fits my hand quite nice. But if you have the smaller type of hand the ppk would be better. The sig does have some more modern improvements over the walther as described above. But I do like the position of the walther safety on the slide and it wouldnt in my opinion slow you down much, if any at all. It just takes a flick of the thumb on the draw for me. ALot of people badmouth the walther pp,ppk, ppk/s. But this pistol was the choice of many police departments all over the world for many years. It was also the choice of the Luftwaffe above all others. And as a member once commented about the Germans in WW2 "The Germans were not dumb". I personally like the feel of the walther over the sig. Plus, and I know this counts little in a backup gun, but it is a classic and has that classic look. It has often been immitated but never quite perfectly copied. I would also reccomend you look into some of the rather nice Makarovs coming into the country as well. They fire a slightly more potent round than both the sig and the walther and they are dirt cheap right now. And they are based on a Walther PP so they are simple and durable.

    The Sig is a good choice. It is the carry that my wife uses... and she aims small with it.... The gun was mine, but she tried it out and took it...

    Had a Sig 230sl. Was a very nice gun, shot well, no problems, ect.
    It was very German in that it was machinery art, well fitted, everything in its place, zero tool marks. Traded as the .380, tho it works, is puny aside of the 9mm Kahr PM9, which is a lighter, smaller carry.
