ring lapping
Would someone be kind enough to walk me through the scope lapping process and where to find the stuff that will be needed for it. Thanks

I know what the purpose of ring lapping is. The question I have is, why isn't lapping the bottom parts enough? 0 -
sinclair sells the ring lapping kits. The bases are installed, the rings are then put on. If they are top-split rings,..then the top is left off while the lapping bar and compound are worked back and forth in the ring bottom half. That releives any edges or sharp corners that are caused by the base mounting holes not being drilled in perfect alignment on the receiver top, which in turn causes the rings to not be in perfect alignment with each other.. This will reduce or eliminate stresses on the main tube which can and will cause adjustment difficiencies.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Scope (RING) lapping is just a process of using a 1 inch steel bar with a handle on it that is coated with a abrasive paste, and then worked back and forth in the rings until you can see at least a 80% contact surface on the rings bearing surfaces. These bars can be found at Sinclairs, Brownells, ect......
along with the abrasive paste needed.
Tighten the rings down on the bar just enough to move it, then keep the same pressure on the rings until your finished.0 -

I perfer using a boring bar as some ring only have about 50% contact. In that case you will lapping for a long time. The bar is not cheap but it is the best way. I believe it is a must for bench rest. You can find it in Brownells. 0
