1911 knockoff

I saw this gun on the auction a ballester molina 45acp made in argentia. the price is cheap. is this gun even worth having just for plinking? If not what is a good inexpencive 1911 style gun.

  ballester molina is probably better made than some of the cheap ones that are being made today ,it is fine for plinking ,and a truck gun

  The Ballester Molina (bottom) is not a cheap knockoff - I buy every really nice one that passes too close! If for no other reason they are a great trading piece and I've sold them for twice what I bought them for when a perspective buyer actually holds one. They are nice! Built under the Colt license they are Colts. One of the best deals around. Mine shoot just as well as any 1911A (which they are) - unless you do a little work on your favorite Colt (top)!

  Zipperzap,I don't think you are showing a Ballester ,it looks like a '27 argentine.I don't think the Ballester has a grip safety.???

  The pistol in your picture is not a Ballester Molina it's a Colt made under license in Argentina. This is a picture of a Ballester Molina.
  
  
  
  The Ballester Molina's and their predecessors were indigenous to Argentina, they dated to the 1930's and had nothing to do with Colt.

  I stand corrected - it is a sist. Colt CAL 11.25mm (45 ACP) MOD 1927. You are absolutely correct - the Molina has no grip safety and the grips are vertically cut and not checkered. It is an inferior copy of a Colt.
  
  To be more precise the one I incorrectly called a B. Molina is actually the Argentinean Army M.1927 manufactured by FM (under Colt's license).
  
  A few years back I used to see them all over the place for $200 - $300 ....
  today a really excellent example might run as high as $700 - $1000 ...
  some with the Navy proofs (in excellent shape) even higher!
  
  Thanks for keeping me honest - I knew better.
