K98 or M48, whats the difference?

Is there any major difference between the German and Yugo rifles? SOG has the German for $149 and the Yugo for $99. Should I buy the cheaper one and put the rest towards ammo or is the German worth the extra 50?

    The Yugo M48 is a Mauser 98 design,but has a has a shorter action than most 98 Mauser rifles.A lot of parts will not interchange with the other 98 type of Mausers.The M48s are well made.I have one I bought from Big 5 Sporting Goods store for $189.00 plus tax.Brand new unfired except by the factory with matching bayonet,sling,cleaning kit,and oil bottle.Lots of extra parts around for them.Mine has a teak stock and shoots as well as my K98 German Mauser.

    I agree with Evildr235....

    For shooting, in my opinion, the M48 is the better value. You can get an essentially new gun for less than $200 (I realize you're not asking about the "unissued" examples, but many of the $100 guns I've seen have been VG-EX), although it won't have the historical significance the K98 may/may not have, and they're typically finished a little more roughly.

    I had a German 98 bring back (from my dad) that now belongs to someone I do not know (as per my I.D.). I picked up 3 of the M48s over the last few years. (I have two sons, so I must have two of everything possible....my wifes buys off on that, so I'm sticking with it)

    I shot the 98 a lot when I was young. Bought 5 boxes of Rem soft points over several months, then a Lee loader. (Hammered the Lee week nights to shoot on Saturday after chores).

    Now my question/problem... Only one of the M48's will reliably feed soft points. For the other two, the 'soft point' catches on the rear of the chamber and jams. I load FMJ spire points (with a 'real' reload set-up) because that is all that will feed.

    Has anyone else had this problem and found a remedy ?

    If we do not hang together,
    We will most certainly hang separately.
