    I guess they don't consider them too much of a rifle since the magazine capacity is only 8 rounds.

    Yes they are.. I have sold many of the new Springfields in both 30-06 and 308
    out here in Ca.

    no pistol grip.....
    no detachable magazine - technically true... the enbloc clip is exactly that, a clip... much like a stripper clip. The magazine is an enclosed space for holding ammunition, however it is located inside the gun.
