How to clean/polish metal bolt and bolt carrier?
I have a gun with what appears to be a bare metal bolt and bolt carrier. I would like to polish them up, give them a good, clean satin finish look. I have some aluminum/metal polish but it didnt do much with hand rubbing. Was going to try and use it with a polishing wheel on my dremel. Any other suggestions?
thanks,

[8D]Yo sweaver, I've got a better idea-USA Midway has a Bolt jeweling fixture kit for $49.99 with enough polishing compound for about 50/75 Bolts- I've done all my Weatherbys and Remingtons and they look very professional. You "MUST" use extreme care and don't be in a hurry! Midway pt# is-782499-Good luck[:o)][:p][:p][:D] JIMBO

Shane is this a rifle?
Not sure what a bolt carrier is on one !!!!
The bolt could be cleaned up by using a shoe shine method
with fine emery paper.

Not sure what your after here, but I've been using a finishing "cloth"
3M Scotchbrite. At least when we were trying to clean up some engine parts to that like new surface, these worked beautiful on just about anything including brass and copper, with no scratching. They can be had in hand polishing pads or disks for drill. Some lumber yards, walmart (automotive) and auto supply. We used the red pads but come in other "grits" and aggresiveness as well.0 -
My problem is that the bolt carrier looks stained for some reason, dark areas. I tried my metal polish and dremel today but it didnt get it out. Goimg to get some more agressive paste tomorrow and try it.

Sounds like those dark areas are IN the metal, not ON it. They probably will NOT come off.
