Remington 78 SPORTSMAN ?

I traded for this rifle in a .270 caliber, it looks good and the action is real smooth.What years was this gun produced and how much is it worth?I can not find a plain 78 Sportsman on gunbroker.

    Will a model 700 stock fit the model 78?The 78 loads through the top and I want to put a synthetic stock on it any suggestions?

    I have a Year 2000 Blue book that lists 1984-89 for production. It was the budget model 700 that replaced the 788, when that model was discontinued.

    Value (2000): 98% $235; 90% $190. Last (1989 Mfr sugg. retail: $333.

    I have on old prison rifle of that model in 223 Rem. It is an excellent shooter!
