Colt Police Positive Stamped/Engraved
I have a Colt Police Positive .38 Special, 5" sn 2400xx
On the backstrap is engraved "Gibson Dist. Co" which I believe to mean GIBSON DISTILLERY CO. The only problem is the gun appears to be made in 1921, where the company appears to have gone bankrupt in 1920 due to prohibition. Has anyone seen and or heard of this engraving, and can confirm if my guess about Gibson Distillery is correct[?]

Did you consider that it may have been Gibson Distributing Co.? 0 -
When I first got this piece several years ago, that is exactly what I (as well as everyone else who saw it) thought that's what it meant. However, I have found absolutely nothing in regards to a Gibson distributing co, (or alike). The clue that led me to believe it's short for "Distillery" is the time period as well as the significance of this particular distillery, and its enormous business. They have quite a history.
By all means if you know of a Gibson Distributing Co. I would be interested in knowing about it.0
