Opinion of the Savage 99 Rifle
What is your opinion of the Savage Model 99 rifle. It was years ahead of it's time and I think a very good design.

The Savage 99 is one fine lever action rifle. It comes in many different caliburs. I am partial to the 300Savage and the .308. The rotery loading system is slick. This adds to a rounded area below the magazine which adds to the balance when holding the rifle. I have not meet anyone who has owned or shot one that had anything but good things to say about it. My 2 cents [8D]

I have a friend in NE that has a beauty. Known her for 15 years and never knew she hunted. She is older than me - and that's old! Savage 303 cartriges are not cheap. After a season of that I bought her a new Savage 10GY in 243 (she is a small lady). She loves it and promises to take good care of the old timer. Her's is actualy a model 95 and she had no idea what it was worth.

I have one in almost new condition (90%) in 250 Sav. that was my moms, She had taken many deer and 2 small black bears with it. A real nice shooter.

Many here are saying very nice things about this classic rifle. What they aren't saying is why the Savage M99 is such a great classic. They are fast handling spot on shooters. This lever action design is rugged and will easily put up with the worst that artic/desert conditions can throw at them. They are fit to handle the most modern, non magnum, short action cartridges out there. In truth they are only a bit slower in function then a semi auto and much more reliable. There is quite a cottage industry out there re-barreling the M99 and installing better triggers and such. This is only reserved for the better classic rifles, not the dross. 0 -
Went to a gun show here in Vt. yesterday and didn't see one 99 for sale. People who have them up here tend to keep them. Shot my second deer with a 99 in .300 Savage. I'm a Winchester collector (even though I use a Rem. Mtn. rifle in .280 for hunting) but why I ever let that 99 get away, I'll never know. -Asa 0 -
My local shop has one that I really want but, I don't have the disposable income for it right now. The bluin is mostly gone and the stock is loose. I haven't looked at it real close but, I still want it.
