10-22 jamming with stingers
I have a ruger 10-22 it has had a lot of work don to it. volk trigger asembly, green mountain target barrel etc. I like to use cci stingers in my other 22 rifles but in this one I get alot of jammin. what can i doto remedy this?

The Ruger 10-22 shouldn't be using CCI Stingers.
The case is a bit longer than regular .22LR's.
I am not sure why Ruger doesn't recommend CCI Stingers, but I suspect that is one of the reasons.
Feed/extract problems.
Some 10-22's like the stingers anyways, some don't.
I'd stick with regular High-Velocity or CCI MiniMag's.
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

Rugger does not recommend using Stinger's in their rifles, and I think Green Mtn., Adams & Bennett, and other custom barrel mfg. make a similar recommendation.
I'm sure that there will be some of the hardcore 10/22 folks along that will be able to give you much more specific info.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
What specifically is it doing?
Failure to extract?
Failure to eject?
Failure to feed?
I have several 10-22's and they work fine with Stingers. The round is overall the same length as regular 22lr ammo. They have shortened the bullet and slightly lengthened the case to get the hyper-velocity performance.
It could be that some of the "work" done on the gun has contributed to the problem.

The bbl you installed has a tight match chamber in it. If it was a standard 10-22 and you have not changed the extractor they sometimes will not extract either( the factory heavy bbl 10-22s have a match chamber and a little better extractor than the sporter bbl guns). Sometimes the chambers(or throat) are cut a little short in the heavy bbls. They are designed to work with standard and target ammo which usually have 40 grain lead bullets and are not loaded hot like the stingers which if they feed usually swell in the chambers and are had to extract or work the action to hard due to the excess pressure. -- Just change your ammo ..............good luck.......[8D] 0 -
Changing factory parts to competition match parts on the 10/22 can sometimes lead to less reliable function. This is because the replacement parts are precision tolerance and the remaining Ruger factory parts are not factory tolerance. With these modifications there must be a tradeoff which is usually reliablity. After all the rifle is more accurate - is it not?
The factory 10/22 is notorious for a loose chamber. Ruger cuts the chamber with a standard SAAMI .22 reamer, which cuts 0.062-inch too deep. Their reaming often leaves burrs in the throat, and the chamber isn't always concentric to the bore. It is also known for sloppy headspace with a bolt face that does not fit square with the breech face. The factory setup, like many military arms, makes reliablity high and precision low.
If a target barrel was installed, two things might occur. The chamber is probably a Bentz chamber which is cut tighter and has less tolerance than the factory chamber. Therefore, the fit is less forgiving, i.e., reliability goes down and FTF/FTE problems occur.
Two, the sloppy head space with the bolt being out of square with the breech is even more accentuated because a more precise path to the chamber is needed resulting in FTF (the chamber is now a smaller target for a cartridge in battery right?).
This is a somewhat common occurence for these modifications. There are several remedies. One is to have the bolt polished and squared to the breach face. I think the company Connecticutt Precision Chambering can take care of this.

An overpowered extractor spring may help and reduce FTE problems.
The third remedy is to oil the chamber with a teflon based oil to keep the feed way slick for both FTF/FTE problems.
