45 cal. pistols witch one?
I would like to purchase a .45 cal pistol. I like the springfield longslide. I'm going to be uesing it for indoor target shooting and just all around fun shooting outdoors. I'd like as accurate as possible without going to crazy on price? I would like some opinions.

What price range are you looking at?
You can find used H&K USP 45's for a reasonable price. They're good guns, easy to maintain, easy to shoot, and pretty robust.0 -

I just purchased the Springfield Armory model PI9132L and love it. Its pretty much all you need for bullseye at around $700. I had an ex gunsmith look it over and he was real impressed with the tightness of the slide and the trigger. A quick adjustment of the spring finger gave it a 3.5 lb pull. I'm still trying to get an 18lb main spring for it from Springfield since stock 1911 springs are too long with the new ILS safety. I put a 10lb recoil spring in it and it will drill the 10 ring right out of a B2 target with light loads. This is my second Springfield. My other is the stock govt model with some extras added. I thought that was a good gun at $450 but the 9132 is really great. I've seen Kimbers for more money that arent nearly as tight as this one and I do believe it's better than the goldcup. I would certain not hesitate to recommend a Springfield to you. 0 -
I copied my reply from a day ago...a 1911 question that eventually got locked.....if you search previous posts you will get all the info you could want.
My $ 0.02 ? I am not ashamed to say that there are probably some refinements, some that are costly, that I cannot benefit from. For my third '1911' in 45ACP I went with a SA 1911A1 with some 'custom shop' improvements. (A hand fitted 'fat end' bbl and bushing, a little trigger work, some flaired openings, and my favorite sights)... I'm out LESS than $ 500.00.
My podnuh has a super fine Colt that he has $1,100.00 in, a near top of the line Kimber, and a funky custom target job.
Even borrowing one for two months, I can't shoot any better with his Colt or Kimber than my SA. SO, WHAT I'M PROVIDING WITNESS TO IS BUY WHAT GIVES YOU AN IMPROVEMENT....It is sad when you pay for something that does you no good.
A similar story at the camp every year too. A few of the members get a new SUV or 4x4 every year or two. When we head back to the blinds, we always end up in my 1964 Bronco.
Revision - My first 45 '1911' was a second-hand Firestorm (which most folks consider barely a gun, but I must have gotten a good one). It is a cheap gun and it is loose as a goose now, but it still has never failed to function on ball ammo.0 -

I bought the SA Mil-spec. Not the GI MIl-Spec. Mine has the 1/2 Novak style sights. I typically shoot 4" groups @ 25yds. and 10/10 at 10 yd rapid fire. They have a SS upgrade I do believe but I haven't seen it or fired it. I have fired Kimbers and they are nice but very easy to get out of your price range when looking for little extras that help you shoot better. Colts, same way. -Good luck.

For around that kind of money you could get an EAA Witness Hunter or IPSC type gun. Check them out on the web and in any threads you might find on this and other forums. It's really hard to beat their guns for price and effectiveness. That CZ 75 type gun sure looks mean too!

I too own a Springfield, and and am very happy with it. I have been given a couple of Colts and like them as well. However, having been an owner of a CZ 75 9mm for well over 10 years now, I got curious and bought a CZ 97 .45. I have to say it is amazing! It has the same natural feel as the 75, and with more than 500 rounds through it not a single catch yet. All the guys I go shooting with like it as well. Very simple take down and operation and ultra comfortable. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1911s, but CZ does make a good product.
I have been looking at a SW 1911 on the auction. Does any one have any experience with one? Are they worth the money?0 -
