I'm wanting the best scope for no more than $750.00(unless there is a real standout that is worth an extra $50.00-$100.00).

I have a Leupold picked out. It is the VX III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Side Focus with a 30mm Tube. I was also wondering if the illuminated model is worth the extra money.

I was also looking into Sightron but I can't seem to find a lot of information about them. Can anyone help me out here? Are they as good as Leupold?

Are there any other brands I should look at?

I'm using this for big game and varmint hunting, maybe some target shooting (nothing serious). The gun I am using is a Remington Model 700 308.

Any information/suggestions would be helpful.

    I am looking for input on sightron scopes, good or bad? I'm looking at a S2 6.5-25x50 ao. This is a new brand to me. Can anybody help?

    Your mountain rifle is fairly compact and lightweight. I would suggest that a reasonably trim and lighter weight scope is in order. The usual fracus will start between the Leupold lover & haters. Still Leupolds 2x7x32 Vari II, or what ever its called now, would be hard to beat on a pure hunting rig. Light weigh and great for close in shooting on the 2x and just fine for out to 200yds at 7x. The only drawback will be at the target range. You just can't zoom in like with a 14x and will need to use a spotting scope. I also own a B&L 4000, 2.5x10x40 which I keep on my M70 8mmRemMag with the 26" barrel. It is very much in proportion to this larger and heavier rifle. It is an excellent scope and I would assume that the 3200 firefly would be also. I just don't know that the firefly will fit your mountain rifle as well as a 2x7 Leupold.

    I love my Burris Signature 1.5X6, they work fine and last a long time. Compare all the scopes you can to find the one you like best.

    Burris Signature has my vote. IMO, they simply deliver the most value for the money. I have only the lowly Fullfield II 3-9x40 (mounted on a long-barreled Wallyworld 10/22, of all things), and it is onehelluva scope for around $150....

    The Burris Signature is a very well built scope (as is the Fullfield). I think it would hold up better to any abuse (accidentally dropped, etc.) then the other scopes mentioned and they gather more light then most scopes.

    Nice rifle![:p] A Leupold VII 3x9x40 is an excellent choice for a
    hunting rifle. The Burris would be my second choice. But you wont
    go wrong with either.

    If I had that rifle, I would probably top it off with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40mm. They can be had for around $250. If you don't mind spending a little more, a VX-III 2.5-10x40mm would be a nice choice too. I have a VX-II 4-12x40mm on my .375 Ultra and a VX-III 4.5-14x40mm on my .25-06 (both Remington 700 BDL's) and I would choose the same scopes time after time.

    It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.

    If you are used to using 40mm scopes then do not buy anything smaller . I can tell you first hand you will not be happy with it.
